Doppler Labs introduces some new augmented reality earbuds

Doppler Labs has unveiled their newest pair of earbuds for their Here Active listening system, but they’re doing something fairly interesting with the technology. This is, in a sense, augmented reality for your ears, and they’re calling it Here One.

So what’s the difference between Here Active and Here One? Well, Here Active was a pretty interesting little offering that let users actively adjust the sound quality of their environment via a smartphone app. You can think of them as smart hearing aides. Rock concert too loud? Cancel out the high end frequencies. Can’t hear your companion over the sound of the train? Lower the train’s volume and increase the volume of the vocal range. Here One takes this tech one step further by adding back all the other features we would expect from Bluetooth earbuds.

That’s right. This means with these bad boys you can stream audio from your phone while simultaneously adjusting the noise around you. If Here Active can be considered smart hearing aides, Here One can be thought of as augmented reality for your ears.

They’ve even increased Here Active’s capabilities by adding “adaptive filtering.” Noah Kraft, the CEO of Doppler labs, speaks pretty highly of the feature, describing a situation in which the sudden passing of a fire truck would interrupt a conversation. “Before your ears can even recognize the siren,” he says, “so faster than your own brain, it can recognize the siren and reduce that without adulterating the human speech.”

Here One can be thought of as augmented reality for your ears.

If that actually works, it would be some pretty stupendous technology. We’ll have to wait around until November when this product ships, but if you’re already convinced then you can head over to their website and preorder a pair of these high-tech earbuds for $299.

What are your thoughts regarding Doppler Lab’s latest top tier Bluetooth earbuds? Worth the price tag, or are you satisfied with basic noise cancellation for your tunes on the go? Let us know your opinion in the comments below!
